Liposuction Procedure Helps With Self-Image

Liposuction can help people who eat right and exercise correctly, but are still unable to get rid of the fat in their "problem area". Liposuction can help in these instances by ridding the vicinity of fat.

Often times a person will eat right and exercise correctly, but they are still unable to get rid of the fat in their "problem area". One person may feel that no matter how hard they workout and how well they eat, they are just not able to get that sculpted stomach that they want.

Another person's problem area might be his or her thighs. It varies from individual to individual, but most people have at least one location on their body that causes self-consciousness to rear up. Liposuction can help in these instances by ridding the vicinity of fat.

Most people have heard of the procedure, which includes removing excess fat via suction, but many are unsure what is involved in the actual process. In past years, dry, wet and super-wet methods were used, but today tumescent liposuction is the preferred technique.

It begins by the doctor injecting a fairly large amount of a capillary constrictor and a local anesthetic into the fatty area, which then becomes swollen. Since the local anesthetic is used, it is rare for general anesthesia to be needed, although IV sedation is an option that can be chosen in most circumstances.

Once the site is ready, the surgeon will make small incisions. A cannula, which is a surgical instrument that is very thin and tube-like, is then inserted through an incision. This cannula is attached to a suctioning machine, so that when inserted it will break up the fat globules and draw them out of the body.

When this is complete, the surgeon performing the liposuction will wrap the area(s) with compression bandages to help reduce swelling. Drains may also be put in place to allow the excess fluid an outlet. The healing process can take some time. As with any surgical procedure, the patient should be sure to get plenty of rest and allow time for recovery. The swelling can last as long as several months depending on the locale of the procedure.

The techniques can be used on numerous locations of the body in either men or women. Men often find that their problem areas include the stomach, love handles (spots above the hips) and facial features such as the chin and jowls.

Women sometimes have trouble with achieving the desired look on their buttocks, thighsFree Reprint Articles, stomach and upper arms. The concerning body part is as unique as the individual is. Liposuction can help create contours that a person has not been able to achieve through eating right and exercising.
