Nose Jobs: Tips For Recover From The Procedure

Recovery from a nose job takes between one to three weeks, with final results visible after three months to two years. Planning for this recovery period before the surgery allows it to be as smooth as possible.

Individuals looking to make their face appear more proportionate often turn to nose jobs, or rhinoplasty, a form of surgery that contours the nose to make it fit the appearance of the face. If you are waiting to have a rhinoplasty, preparing for recovery beforehand will make the entire surgery and the healing period much less stressful.

First, you must understand that your face will not look perfect after the procedure. It is not uncommon for the nasal bridge to be crooked as the area heals. This is due to swelling, in most situations. You may also find that areas of your face are bruised, swollen, numb, and painful.

Do not judge the rhinoplasty's results until you have given your body time to heal. In fact, doctors estimate that it takes between three months and two years to see what the final result will look like.

To aid healing and make your recovery faster, use cold, dry compresses frequently after your procedure. Do not use nasal medications for at least three months. For the first two weeks post-surgery, use a humidifier and saline spray to keep the nasal passages moist.

Elevating your head when you sleep or rest will prevent swelling. Do not put anything in your nostrils, including your finger, for at least four weeks post-surgery, as this can change the shape by interrupting the healing process.

Do not be alarmed if you see some blood after your surgery. However, if you see a sudden increase in the amount of blood, talk to your doctor. Remember, nose jobs can be quite complex, even involving breaking of the bones in the face, so bleeding is expected in small amounts.

If you are working, give yourself between one and three weeks to recover at home. However, you should not start exercising or doing any strenuous work for at least six weeks.

Makeup will be your friend after the procedure. Nose jobs usually result in swelling and bruising of the nasal area. While you cannot do much with makeup to minimize the swelling, when you are ready to get back to work, you can use makeup to lessen the visual impact of the bruising.

Use a good under-eye concealer to cancel out the color of any bruises, and then use a foundation with good coverage to smooth out the look your face.

If you take the time during recovery to let your body heal, allowing yourself to rest and recuperate after the surgery, you will see a better result from your rhinoplasty. Always follow your doctor's orders exactly, and soon your freshly proportioned face will make its appearance in the world.
