Many people still have this view of plastic surgery as an escapist route for the rich and powerful—a way to never have to grow old. The truth is that techniques and procedures are being used around the country and individuals from all walks of life and socioeconomic backgrounds are getting various procedures done. Why Is Plastic Surgery So Affordable?
This bothers a lot of people. It seems that in every area of medicine, techniques and procedures are going up in cost, while the opposite is true for liposuction or breast implants. The fact of the matter, however, is that the cost of these procedures is going up as well. The difference is that due to exposure through the media, these procedures are much more popular than they once were. With that popularity comes competition, which can drive prices down in certain areas. Sometimes to what some would consider dangerous levels. It’s usually not a good idea to find the cheapest doctor you can find when it comes to these procedures.

Is All Plastic Surgery Cosmetic?
Definitely not, although that’s where the big bucks are for doctors in the field. Much of the field is concerned with reconstruction due to cancer, car accidents, birth defects, and other abnormalities. In most cases, these procedures are paid for with insurance, which as anyone who has been paying attention knows, insurance reimbursement is going down for physicians. This means they are forced to pick up more cosmetic work to fill out a decent salary. 

What Makes a Poor Candidate for Plastic Surgery?
The answer to this question will differ somewhat from doctor to doctor. Generally, bad candidates have unrealistic expectations for their procedure. One ubiquitous example is a really obese individual going in for liposuction, expecting to take the easy route to losing weight. Or a woman with already large breasts going in for implants. Many doctors turn these types of people away, although there are usually places one can go no matter what kind of candidate they are. Some doctors are not very discriminating.

Will Men Ever Have Plastic Surgery At The Same Rate As Women?
Impossible to say, but most signs point to a resounding no. Men aren’t under the kind of pressure to look good in our society as women. Having said that, rates are definitely growing for both sexes as men and women alike try to find ways to look as good as possible and feel comfortable in their own skin.
