Plastic Surgery for the Face and Neck

This article explains the different plastic surgery procedures for the face. It gives some of the different techniques for each.

Plastic surgery is an umbrella term that has different sub-specialties and fields under it. Both men and women can undergo the different kinds of operations that surgeons do to their patients, with only slight variations to accommodate the gender of the patient. One of the more common areas of the body that patients often seek improvement or enhancement is the face and the head. The many features of our face are often the object of specific surgeries to make them appear differently and vastly improved.

Rhinoplasty

This operation centers fully on the nose and the regions directly closest to it. Each person views his or her nose in a different way and many may not be satisfied with the appearance of theirs. Plastic surgery can alter the appearance of the individual in a big or small way, depending on the preferences of the patient. Alterations can be done on the bridge (lower or raise it), the nostrils (widen or narrow them), the end, the base and others. The actual operation is basically safe and has little risk although the recovery period may be fraught with discomfort.

Otoplasty

This operation is centered mainly on the ears of the individual and often done to alter prominent ears (ears that protrude outwards) and return the form and function of the ears (for deformities and deafness). The former operation is mainly cosmetic while the latter is mainly reconstruction. Many children undergo these plastic surgery procedures while they are still young to accommodate bullying, peer pressure and to return the form and function of the organ. Pinning of the ears is a common procedure for children because they often suffer from peer pressure and bullying. Adults might also want to alter the outer appearance of their ears but this is seldom done for older people.

Face Lift

This is a generalized procedure that usually includes regions of the face such as the brows and the cheeks. The main purpose of these operations is to eliminate the appearance of wrinkles and lines that usually come out and develop as the person ages. Many men and women dislike having these and opt to undergo the face lift to stretch their skin and appear younger. Some surgeons like to combine different techniques and methods into the overall surgery while they are at it. The correction of the chin and jowls can also be done during the overall plastic surgery operation. A chemical peel is also another noninvasive technique that can smooth wrinkles and fine lines in the face. It makes the skin more sensitive to sun exposure and other chemicals in skin care products. Eye surgery, also called blepharoplastyArticle Submission, is also a common procedure that may employ the use of different techniques to alter the appearance of the eyes. Reshaping the overall shape of the eyes and the alteration of Asian looking eyes into double lidded eyes is also a popular plastic surgery procedure. Eyes can be one of the first things that convey age which is why many men and women like this procedure.
