These plastic surgery recovery tips will help you recover quickly from a surgical procedure. They will make sure you do not experience complications or unnecessary pain.

Firstly, you will need a ride home after surgery and someone by your side for at least 24-72 hours. This allows you to recuperate, while another person cooks your food and keeps you comfortable during your recovery time.

Bear in mind that many patients experience depression after plastic surgery, because of the swelling, pain, and bruising that follows surgery. That's why it is very important to take the time to relax after surgery.

Your doctor will give you post-operative instructions, so make sure you follow them. For instance, you may need to take antiobiotics and pain medication.

Once you begin going outside after surgery, you need to protect your skin from the sun's UV rays. Use a good sunscreen that contains SPF of 15. Avoid the sun when you can and do not leave your house without protection. The sun can slow down the healing process and make scars more apparent.

You will need a few weeks off of work to stay home and recuperate from surgery. You may also qualify for short-term disability if you need an extended recovery period.

Before you even go in for surgery, make sure your house is stocked with foods. The cleaning and laundry should be done. Your bills should all be paid. Make sure you have relaxing activities to keep you busy such as movies, books, crossword puzzles, music, or puzzles.

Avoid housecleaning and lifting. Your muscles and tissues need time to heal. Do not lift anything that weighs more than a few pounds. Don't do any strenous activities until your doctor says you are ready.

Make sure you have plenty of pillows and blankets around. When you sleep, you can keep extra pillows under your head, and other one between your knees and against your stomach. The pillows will keep you comfortable while you sleep.

You can minimize swelling and pain with ice packs. You can also use bags of frozen vegetables and fruit or gel packs. Apply the ice packs or frozen bags to the affected areas for 15 minutes at a time for the best results, but make sure you take breaks in between.

Avoid smoking because it can delay the healing process and cause tissue death, which is very serious. You cannot smoke two weeks before and after your surgery.
