At about 4:30 PM on Monday, August 16th, 2010, the fire department in Ventura County received a call that a car had ran off the side of the road in Malibu. When the crash occurred, there was a vehicle of lifeguards that were going in the opposite direction who stopped to help. Dr. Ryan. Frank was driving a Jeep Wrangler and had landed on a bunch of rocks that cause massive head injuries. Efforts were made to airlift Dr. Ryan to a local hospital via helicopter but never happened because he was pronounced DOA at the scene of the accident.
Details later revealed that Dr. Ryan was trapped inside the Jeep. He was traveling with his dog, Jill, who was thrown from the Jeep when the accident occurred. The dog survived with minor injuries including damage paws.
Many people knew plastic surgeon Dr. Ryan well and a vigil was held at the home of Lisa Vanderpump, one of the stars of the TV hit show The "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills".
It was later revealed that just seconds before the crash occurred, Dr. Ryan tweeted, something about climbing to the top of a mountain in Malibu and also included a picture of his dog sitting on the top of the mountain. Because of that tweet, there was much speculation that he may have been tweeting while driving which caused the accident to occur. However, this has not been confirmed. Officials from law enforcement had also considered a DUI as another cause of the accident to occur, but when the toxicology reports came back eight weeks later, driving under the influence was ruled out. Once an autopsy was completed, plastic surgeon Dr. Ryan's cause of death was from trauma to the head. It was also determined that an unsafe turn was the cause of the crash.
