Rhinoplasty: Prepare for Surgery and Recovery

Being excited for your rhinoplasty operation is normal, but you should take some time to prepare for it. Though the results are often worth it, the recovery period can be tough if you are not ready, so do as much as you can before the day of surgery.

Undergoing rhinoplasty, usually known as a nose job, can be exciting. If you dislike the shape, size, or placement of your nose, this type of surgery can certainly help. However, like any surgical treatment, there is a recovery period that you should prepare for. Find out how to be prepared for everything from the day of surgery to the healing period.

Some doctors will not perform the operation if you smoke, but many will agree to do so if you can quit at least temporarily. This is because your body typically takes longer to heal when you smoke, so if you cannot quit altogether, try to quit for a couple weeks before the operation. You should also plan on not smoking during recovery. Otherwise, the healing process will take much longer than it should, and might require the removal of dead skin that never healed.

Before you go in for surgery, you should wear loose clothes that are easy to remove when you put on the surgical gown. This is especially helpful for when you wake up to leave the operating room, as you certainly will not want to deal with buttons or clasps afterward. You should also plan ahead of time to have a friend or family member drive you to and from the appointment, as well as someone to help take care of you for the next three days or so. They might not have to stay with you the whole time, but you should have someone to check on you periodically while you heal.

Another way to prepare for rhinoplasty ahead of time is to create a comfortable area in your house that you are will spend time in for the days following the appointment. Your routine will be quite different immediately following surgery. You will be uncomfortable, even when on pain pills, and you should make sure your body gets plenty of rest so it can heal. Consider having an area ready with pillows, books, a television and remote, a phone, heating pads, ice packs, and a pill case in which you can organize your medications. You will also probably need skin moisturizers, eye drops to appease dry eyes, and all your pain medications in one place for easy access.

Clearly, you should prepare for being a bit sore and tired after rhinoplasty. Not only should you take several days off work and any exercise routines, but you should also plan on doing very little during that time. You might think you can get some work done from home, but most likely you will just want to sleep and relax as your body healsComputer Technology Articles, and that is perfectly normal.
