Rhinoplasty Recovery Techniques

A nose job, or rhinoplasty,is a surgical treatment option to individuals seeking a more refined looking nose. Patients include those who have sustained injuries due to accidents or individuals who wish to correct nasal defects such as a deviated septum. Still, others pursue this procedure as a means to obtain a more aesthetically pleasing facial structure. In this article we will outline the steps to recovery.

Step 1 – Patients should be aware that the healing period post surgery can last up to several weeks. Bruising and swelling are rather common, and patients should expect a bit of initial discomfort. It is advisable for those undergoing treatment to schedule the appropriate amount of time away from work and social activities in order to properly recover.

Step 2 – Following the procedure, the nose is filled with packing materials to aid the nose in retaining the newly obtained shape, while absorbing any blood. Resist the urge to remove the material until the doctor deems it ok. You will likely be scheduled to visit with your physician a few times in the weeks afterward at which time, the condition will be evaluated, and the packing removed.

Step 3 – Relax. Don’t strain yourself, and treat your time away as a personal vacation. Grab a stack of your favorite movies, grab your recliner, and sit it out. You’ll want to keep your head elevated and activities to a minimum.

Step 4 – Apply ice as directed. You may also try a bag of frozen peas, as many patients find these preferable to a typical ice pack. In addition, frozen peas will not put as much pressure on the nasal structure, and will help with the healing time. Regardless, always follow your physician’s instructions.

Step 5 – Make sure to eat healthy and drink plenty of fluids during your recovery. Your body must be nourished to help with the healing process. A healthy diet will only help move things forward while keeping you feeling alert and vibrant.

Step 6 – When it comes to sleeping, you may want to stick to the living room recliner. During recovery, your head must be elevated at all times to help in alleviating the swelling. Lying on your back will only aggravate this condition.

Step 7 – When the physician takes off your bandages for the first time, don’t be alarmed. Many patients experience swelling for the first 3 months after surgery. It make take some time for you to realize the look you initially expected. Be patientFind Article, and continue abiding by physician instruction.
