A lot of people may think so,Skin Tag Removal - Is It Necessary to Cure Skin Tags? Articles but it is for cosmetic reasons, not medical ones. Medically speaking, skin tags are completely benign growths on the skin acquired over time and are not harmful in any way. In other words, it is not necessary to cure tags on the skin. However, most people would agree that they are not very attractive to look at!

Why Skin Tags Occur

If you see a small bit of soft skin hanging out somewhere on your body, it is most probably a skin tag. You may have several tags on your body (up to 80-100) or you may have none. It is not necessarily indicative of the state of your health, although it has been noted that obese or overweight people are more likely to develop them. Perfectly fit individuals may acquire them too, and in some cases, these tags may even be hereditary. In fact, what exactly causes skin tags is not known. What has been observed is that they generally occur in parts of the body where skin rubs against skin, or against a garment. This includes the groin, armpits and neck. The eyelids are prone to skin tags too, and women may develop them under their breasts.

Dimensions

Tags on the skin are generally quite small, in the range of 2-5 millimeters in diameter. This is probably why a lot of people don't bother about removing them. However, skin tags may grow to be 5 cm in diameter. The good news is that even without treatment, they don't always stay permanently, and may fall off at some stage.

Who Gets Them

It is very difficult to specify a general age at which people acquire these tags. Generally, they appear in one's adulthood, and one is prone to them into one's sixties. However, they may appear in toddlers and children too, especially in exceptionally chubby babies. It has also been observed that pregnant women are quite likely to develop skin tags. This is probably because of hormonal changes.

Bothersome?

Generally tags on the skin are not itchy or irksome, but if they do become that, do not delay in consulting a dermatologist and inquiring about the safest and most appropriate skin tag removal methods. You may be pleased to find out that apart from medical procedures, there are some effective home remedies to get rid of them too, involving easily available ingredients like baking soda, castor oil, garlic, apple cider vinegar and potatoes.

Removal Methods

The medical procedures available to cure skin tags are generally quick and painless. They can either be burnt using a Hyfrecator, frozen with liquid nitrogen, or tied at their base with dental floss till they can easily be plucked off. Bear in mind that all this sounds more difficult and painful than it actually is.

Before you begin any form of tag on the skin removal treatment, do consult a dermatologist and make sure that what you have is actually a skin tag and not something else.
