Tummy Tuck: Is The Procedure Appropriate For The Teens

Tummy tuck is a plastic surgery procedure that aims at giving you flatter and firmer tummy. This article discusses how appropriate the procedure can be for teens. It also gives an overview of the procedure and recovery period.

Teenagers these days often think about having a tummy tuck done to improve their looks. The rise of obesity in young children and teens has also given rise to the need for many of them to improve their appearance in order to blend in well with their classmates and peers.

The reality of it is that many children and teens that are overweight are often the target of bullying and peer pressure. Most of these kids and their parents want to avoid this and turn to cosmetic surgery for the answer.

Doctors do not actually encourage teens to have a tummy tuck. This is due mainly to the fact that they have so much room for improvement without the aid of artificial help. Doctors also explain that an abdominoplasty usually works best after some weight has been lost which is hwy some recommend having a liposuction done to increase the chances of an improved appearance.

Medical professionals initially recommend other options for losing weight or improving one's appearance such as diet and exercise but if these do not help or if the parents insist on cosmetic surgery then it is the doctor's prerogative to accept or decline the case.

Abdominoplasty

There are several techniques available for a tummy tuck, other wise known as an abdominoplasty. The surgeon usually recommends and suggests the kind of technique to be used based on how much excessive skin and fat are to be taken out. A full abdominoplasty is usually reserved for those who have lost a lot of weight and is burdened by sagging skin in the abdominal area.

It entails having a lot of the dermis trimmed off as well as some tightening of the tissues which have not been trimmed off underneath. Other techniques for the operation may not require extensive incisions but these will still be considered major surgery.

Recovery for this type of cosmetic surgery is not rapid and may take several weeks. Patients are encouraged to refrain from straining themselves or carry heavy objects due to the abdominal muscles being affected. Doctors usually prescribe two weeks worth of antibacterial medication and several weeks' worth of pain relievers.

The antibacterial medicines should be taken according to how the doctors prescribed it. Missing out on taking them for one or two days will nullify the effect and can open the risk of infection.

The decision on teens having this procedure actually rests on a lot of things. The agreement between the parents and the child is one of the main things and the consent of the doctor is another.
