Undergo training and become an industrial X-ray technician

Most of us have heard or read about X-ray technicians associated with the healthcare field. Many are not aware that X-ray techicians work in industries too. Industrial X-ray technicians play an important role in manufacturing which is essential for product integrity and your safety. The technician examines and studies materials like metal or paper or even uses imaging technology to confirm the integrity of equipment to make sure it meets proper specifications. All this is done with the help of radioactive materials.

 If you are interested in getting trained and want to join the rest, you need to first find the degree program that is suitable for you. Once you have completed the program, you will earn your  certification and license. This will help you in finding the job that is apt for your interests, skills and abilities. Here are some steps enlisted below to help you understand the training process

Firstly, find out adequate information on available programs. It will mostly be referred to as Non-destructive Testing (NDT) technician, industrial X-ray technician or industrial radiologic technician. Different programs are available for mechanical engineering technicians, aircraft maintenance, etc. Before you register for a certain program, make sure it is fully accredited by a reputable accreditation association. The American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) has tie-ups with programs in the U.S., India, Canada, etc.

 Secondly, finish a degree program. It can be a two-year degree from a technical college or a four-year bachelor's degree from an university or a college. Arming yourself with a degree will help you get the best employment and give you long-term job security.

 Thirdly, get a x ray technician certification from ASNT. Their examinations are held in many locations around the world. A NDT technician comes in contact with radioactive materials so, you may have to be licensed by the state or federal government.

 Fourthly, most careers are in industrial settings, but some do get in government agencies also. Many jobs are available for NDT technicians. You will have good working conditions and splendid salaries that average between $55,000 and $58,000 annually.

 Fiftly, you can specialize in a particular NDT field. NDT technician can be employed in aircraft or automobile manufacturing industries. They analyze concrete in dams or steel and iron in bridges, etc.
