Urgent Care - Serving a Useful Purpose

We live by the clock but unfortunately injury and illness can't tell time. Urgent care clinics give patients the ability to get good medical care without waiting forever in an emergency room waiting room.

If you are hurt or sick, do you visit your doctor or do you hit the emergency room? For most people, the answer to that question truly depends on whether or not they are sick or hurt during normal business hours. The majority would prefer to see their regular doctor in times like this. Unfortunately, illness and injury seldom keep to the 9 to 5 clock that so many offices do. But there is another solution to waiting endlessly in the emergency room to see someone. You can always go to an urgent care clinic instead.

While not open twenty four hours a day, seven days a week, an urgent care clinic is often a middle ground solution to going to see your personal physician or going to the emergency room. These clinics usually have later hours than doctor's offices, many staying open to 10 or 11 at night. They also don't require an appointment like your doctor does. That means if you are feeling under the weather and your doctor can't see you until the next day, then you can simply go to this clinic and see one of their physicians without calling ahead.

As with an emergency room, the more serious the illness or injury, the quicker you are seen by a physician. An urgent care clinic is designed to treat non-life threatening illnesses and injuries. The doctors and nurses are also trained to not let someone sit out in the lobby bleeding just to treat someone with a head cold. This is something you should be aware of should you use their services. This way you don't get upset should they treat someone before you who actually arrived well after you did.

The purpose of an urgent care clinic is to give those with non-life threatening illnesses and injuries somewhere to go. This way, emergency rooms can service those who are truly in need of life-saving medical assistance and those who aren't facing life or death situations can still get the care they need in a timely manner. They are often used as a back up to a regular doctor, because of their extended hours and often being open on holidaysFeature Articles, even if these hours are shorter. You never know when an illness is going to come or when someone is going to have an accident and need medical attention.

Urgent care clinics offer a valuable service to the mom whose child starts running a fever in the evening or to the person who cut their hand but doesn't need anything more than a couple of stitches. Instead of spending hours sitting in the emergency room or waiting until the doctor's office opens the next day this type of clinic is an option.
