Urology is a field of medicine both men and women must be concerned with. It involves any problems and health conditions that might arise out of the body’s urinary functions, through the kidneys, the bladder, the urethra, and more. Many urologists also act as men’s health specialists, performing in many ways the male equivalent of the gynecologist. If you are having any problems with any of the organs listed or think you may have a urology issue, make an appointment with a specialist and get it checked out immediately.

Incontinence is one of the most common problems found in urology. Put simply, it is when the muscles surrounding the control of the bladder weaken, sometimes leading to dripping or full urinary accidents. Though more common among women, it is prevalent in older people of both sexes. There are several medications on the market that can help with incontinence, as well as a litany of things a person can do to improve their control. Some of these things include changing the diet, exercising the muscles in that area, and finding a strict schedule on which to go to the bathroom.

Another condition more common in women is the urinary tract infection. The infection is caused by a buildup of bacteria in the urinary tract, typically in the bladder or lower part of the urethra. The individual will experience a burning sensation when they urinate and will often feel the need to go to the bathroom, even when their bladder is empty. More severe cases may lead to blood in the urinary stream. A doctor will typically prescribe antibiotics to fight the infection. An individual with the infection can assist in the fight by taking in lots of fluids.

Infertility and erectile dysfunction are also problems often considered under the broader urology umbrella. Infertility between couples can occur for a host of reasons, split almost exactly down the middle when it comes to male/female percentages. Of course, erectile dysfunction is a uniquely male condition, specified as any problem that restricts the man’s ability to achieve an erection or sustain it for a suitable length of time. Medicines such as Viagra have enjoyed unlimited popularity because they offer a solution for erectile dysfunction. In some casesArticle Submission, it is more effective to find the root cause of the dysfunction rather than simply treat the symptoms. Low testosterone is a likely candidate. Individuals who smoke are much more likely to suffer from the condition as well.
