If an ailment is discovered early then most often the doctor can treat it before it becomes something more critical. Sometimes the solution can be a dietary change or simply taking a pill.

With younger children and babies, their checkups are to see if they are progressing in a regular fashion. During these visits, they often receive the necessary vaccinations to keep them healthy. Routine exams and blood tests are the first step in most yearly exams. When there is an indication that something is amiss, it is better to have found it in its early stages so your child has a better chance for treating the diseases.

Teens and young adults are undergoing a lot of physical and chemical changes in their bodies and so it is important to check in with these young people to make sure that they transitioning to adulthood as they should be. For the most part these individuals are healthy but there are issues that tend to develop during the late teens including the addition of sexual activity that can lead to health concerns.

As we age, yearly routine exams become more important because we often get wrapped up in our jobs and our roles as parents, we neglect to take care of us. By having your yearly exam, you know that they have looked at all the common factors such as blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar levels. These are good indicators to let us know whether we need to be concerned with more serious ailments.

Once we become elderly, our bodies are being to wear down and not function properly. Elderly people tend to visit their doctors more frequently and if in relatively goo health semi annual visits are recommended rather than annually. At this age, visits are more about managing illnesses rather than curing them and to make sure the various medications being taken continue to be the appropriate amounts and that there isn't a negative reaction to being on several medications at one time.
