It is a fact that tobacco cigarettes kill over 114,000 each year. It is also fact that the electronic cigarette delivers recreational nicotine without the harmful chemicals and thus saves lives. The MHRA, the regulators of Health in the UK have put together a consultation paper, MLX 364, claiming that every product that contains nicotine should be classed as a medicine and therefore fall under regulation. Rt Hon Andy Burnham, secretary of health wants to use this as an opportunity to ban the electronic cigarette yet favours to keep the tobacco cigarette out of this legislation even though tobacco cigarettes also contain nicotine.
There seems to be major hypocrisy in that Rt Hon Andy Burnham seems to be favouring a product (tobacco) that kills 114,000 people each year yet he wants to ban the electronic cigarette that has claimed no lives since it’s invention.
