• Risks – Patients must be comfortable and informed regarding the associated risks and side effects of their specific treatment. 

If a patient is dead set on going through with their procedure, the first step is finding a qualified cosmetic surgeon. There are many ways to go about such a task, but many begin simply by asking around to friends and relatives for recommendations. In addition, many people choose to do their research online, gathering information pertaining to surgeons through reviews, forums, and practitioner websites. 

Once a list of potential candidates has been made, consultations should be scheduled. During this initial meeting, patients are able to discuss their expectations and desires while allowing the physician to evaluate their individual circumstances. Patients should be sure to bring along a list of questions and concerns to address and take notes as to how they are answered. After the initial meeting, patients should have a fairly good idea of whether or not they feel comfortable working with the physician.
