An Orange County Photographer offers tips for getting better shots of high school senior boys.

High School senior boys are a unique market for photographers to shoot. This article explains ways in which a photographer can perform these shoots in an effective profitable way.

1. Have the senior first comes into the studio, have him fill out a first time information sheet that includes his likes and dislikes. This will allow you to better plan to customize his shoot to his personality. In the info sheet, you can also find out what the seniors parents do for a living. This has several advantages. First it will help you better know what their income is likely like which can help you tailor your package to their package to their needs. Second, it will help you schedule better with the parents. For example if one of the parents is a teacher you know that the morning time will likely not be as easy of a time for the parent to meet.

2. In your advertisement to senior boys indicate that the session will be quick. Advertise a quick 35 min. session for only $100. This will help his Mom get him in the door. If he thinks he is going to be in and out he is more likely to come. If once he arrive there he is willing to stay longer (or his mom can convince him to stay longer) make is possible for him to stay (don't schedule these back to back). It is likely that he will stay longer and once he and his parents see the pictures they will be willing to spend more than $100.

3. Ask the senior what he is worried about. He may say something like he has one eye bigger than the other or that he thinks his smile looks funny. You can then tell him all of the things you are going to do to minimize the negatives and emphasize his positives.

4. Ask him to describe himself. The more you know about his personality, the better you will be able match his style.

5. In many of his shots, ask him to put his chin and neck forward and face down a little. This will create a popular strong chin look.
