Anyone that has been in woodworking is familiar with CMT tools,CMT The Orange Tool Articles and anyone considering woodworking should consider using CMT tools. Beginning as a small woodworking shop in Pesaro, Italy in 1964, two generations later this company has grown to a global leader in woodworking tools. Osvaldo Tommassini operated the small shop. During this time, the demand for furniture was thriving. In response to this, Tommassini designed the original orange router bit. CMT continues to be the sole producer of this bit. The second generation of this family continued producing the router bits and also manufacturing grade cutting tools.
Through the use of innovative design and quality raw materials, CMT has grown from the small woodshop into two manufacturing plants. Today they produce their tools and distribute them globally. The business learned early that use of quality raw materials would set them ahead of the competition. The secret to their high quality bit and boring tools is the steel bar and carbide they are made from. The Fatigue Proof bar originated from the Von Moos Stahl steel plant in Switzerland. They developed a hot drawing process that pulls the fibers of the steel one direction. This process makes the steel stronger and extends the life of the bit. The tip of the bit is made from high quality carbide.
Carbide is constructed from compressed carbide powder, cobalt, and tungsten. CMT use carbide powder that is designed in accordance with their specifications. This specific compound is produced in Luxembourg. The life and cutting quality of the bit is dependent upon how well the powder and chemicals bond together. Different manufacturers use a lower grade powder. Their granules are larger and less uniform in dimension.
The powder that CMT makes use of contains granules that are consistent and uniform in size. This creates a robust bond with the chemicals, so the bond extends the life and quality of the bit. Selecting to use a CMT bit will yield high quality cuts with sharp edges and corners. Use of the this bit minimizes the chance of breaking or splitting the wood when cutting. It can be sharpened multiple times without breakdown or reduced cut quality.
The quality of virtually any cutting project is dependent upon the quality of the tool in use. CMT's innovative design and utilization of high grade raw materials makes them the number one producer of cutting tools. Use of their tools will generate a professional grade finished product, which is what everyone prefers.
