Many jewelry enthusiasts,How to Use Acrylic Cabochon on Jewelry Pieces Articles more particularly the DIY types of persons, prefer to use acrylic cabochons over the gemstone variety because of a single reason – price.  While the acrylic cabochon’s prices are very inexpensive, artisans are not lacking for ideas to use them. These findings are as pretty as the gemstones, making them popular for many jewelry applications. Whether you want to adorn your bracelet or necklace with cabochons or create a decorative bead work, there are many design ideas for you.

Acrylic cabochons are available in many different shapes such as round, oblong, flower, heart, butterfly, starfish, and many others.  They also come in different sizes, so you certainly will find these easy to work with.  These cabochons have flat backs that make it possible for them to be mounted or set on bracelets, rings, earrings or pendants.

Setting a cabochon on necklaces and earrings is just a simple task that needs some supplies and tools and an amount of creativity. For this purpose, you might want to find acrylic cabochons with easy mount prongs, so you just need to press on the setting’s back, put the cabochon on the mount, and then let go of the back of the setting. Some settings for necklaces and earrings may or may not need adhesives, but it is a good idea to use a drop for added security.

For mounting a cabochon into a ring, you may use either a ring with prongs, or one with a flat mounting.  You may or may not also need an adhesive for this task.  If you opt for a pronged ring, special pliers will be needed so you can close the prongs over the acrylic cabochon. Make sure that the cabochon and the mount on the ring are of the same size. You first need to open the prongs to allow you to place the cabochon onto the mount. Use tweezers to do this. When you close the prongs, make sure that it is snug, but be careful that you don’t close it too tight, as the cabochon might break. If the ring does not have prongs but a flat mounting, adhesives will be needed. Your local bead store is likely to be selling this item. Apply a drop each to the mount and the flat side of the cabochon, then allow to dry.

Acrylic cabochons can be bought from hobby shops near you or the online bead shops on the internet.  If you are just trying to make a few jewelry pieces for your self, it will be better to go to your local craft store and buy the supplies that you need.  If you, however, are into a jewelry business that sells a good amount of pieces, then your best choice is to order your supplies online and wholesale.  You can save more money this way, plus time and effort.  You also have the added convenience of browsing through various beading sites and placing your orders while inside your home, eliminating the need to dress up and go out to get your supplies.
