These home safes are not fireproof but they may be fire resistant i.e. they protect the enclosures they hold in a fire incident for a particular period of time as the temperature constantly increases. Also there are authorities who have rated and analyzed these safes and have hence been classified in different classes. This classification is on the basis of the temperature at which the safe can prevent the paper inside it from the fire. Class C has the maximum limit of 1700 degree Celsius, class B has 1850 degree and finally Class A, the best one has the maximum range of 2000 degrees. This is the upper limit hence when the temperature is above this, the safe is unable to do anything and the paper inside is set on fire.

The safe is priced on the basis of the class to which they belong and also on the basis of the amount of space in it. They may range from a $50 small safe to a $200 large safe. Other more expensive safes are used for commercial purposes or gun safes.
