When it comes time to select the right carpet for you there are several factors to take into consideration that will help make your choice easier. Your budget is the first consideration. What can you afford to spend? Once you have established your budget you can let the carpet store help you find carpeting in your budget range. Your next decision is the type of carpet you want. Depending on your needs and personal preference you can either get a low maintenance Berber or low,Carpeting: Picking Your Color Articles med or plush style carpeting in a variety of qualities and price ranges. Again your budget determines what options you have available to you, but you certainly want to get the best quality carpet you can afford to ensure a longer life span.

Your most important decision, once you have determined budget and type, is to decide the color you want your carpeting. The color you select will have a big impact on the mood of your home. Light colors tend to make a room appear bigger and lighter than it really is which can make a home appear more cheerful and open. On the other extreme homes with dark carpet tend to appear darker and more formal. The dark nature of the carpet can make a room appear smaller and less open.

You have probably noticed that most new homes and rental units opt for beige carpeting because it is a neutral color and goes with just about any home décor of their potential new tenants. When you are selecting your colors you may be tempted to go to an extreme such as black or white but these color choices should only be used in certain circumstances. Black for example is a good choice if the room you are decorating is large and open and you want to minimize the size somewhat. White can work for any size room since it will make the room appear larger but your lifestyle will dictate how practical this color will be on your floor. If you have pets or kids you may want to hold off on this bold choice until you’re a pet and kid free home, or just select it for a room that you know is kid and pet free.

You may also be tempted to go with a carpet color that matches your furniture such as green carpeting to match your green sectional couch, but you should think about this carefully before you proceed. Too much of any one color can make the home appear flat and dark. The contrast of your carpet and furniture can make it easier to switch out furniture later down the road without worry about making a color coordination match.
And of course if all else fails, you can’t go wrong with a neutral color like beige.
