If you are getting to the point where it takes twenty minutes to find a piece of clothing to wear, it might be time to consider closet systems and what they can bring to your house. No more searching endlessly for that elusive pair of shoes. No more pushing past rack after rack of clothing you haven't worn in years. After you've spent a certain amount of time in a home, it's only natural that things begin to seem a bit cluttered. Well, it's time to shake things up and throw some things out. Get organized! Here's how to start.

Take Everything Out

That's right. If you're serious about introducing closet systems into your home, you need to start by taking everything out and starting from scratch. Every dress, every shirt, every shoe. Throw it all out into the hallway or bedroom and start with a blank slate. Trying to organize a space that is filled with clutter is like trying to Windex a desk without taking anything off the surface. It can be done, but you're making things unnecessarily difficult. Don't look at it like a hassle. Yes, it will be some work, but you'll be surprised at how fun it can be. You won't believe the things you come across in your cleaning.

Be Selective

This next step is a hard one, but it must be done. You didn't take everything out and strew it across the floor just to pick it back up and put it back in. You need to be selective when it comes to the things you re-introduce into the space. Look through your clothing. If you haven't worn it in three years, you're probably not ever going to wear it again. If you have a sentimental attachment to a piece of clothing, you can always store it somewhere else where it isn't in the way. Be careful about this "sentimental attachment", however. It's easy to rationalize your way out of throwing anything out. Before you know it, you're on a TV show about hoarders.

Look At Closet Systems

There's no need to reinvent the wheel when it comes to getting organized. There are experts in the field who can help you find the most efficient, space-saving ways to display your belongings.
