Furnace Repair: Ways to Keep Warm Without the Heat

Whether you waited until the last minute to arrange for furnace repair or the equipment just unexpectedly went out, there is a chance that you will be without heat for a while. Do your best to make the most of it and find creative ways to keep everyone in the house warm.

No matter what the reason for needing furnace repair, there is a chance that it is going to take the local company a while to get out to fix the problem. It may be that things are just a little busy. It may be that the weather is making any type of service calls impossible. Whatever happens it is important that you keep your family warm and sometimes this calls for a little creativity.

Don’t Panic

In most cases there is no real reason to panic. Even without heat there are ways to keep everyone comfortable and just ride out the situation. If you are worried about things and don’t feel confident staying in your home, you should go ahead and make arrangements to stay with someone else. Stay with a friend, family member or even in a local hotel until things are all worked out with the furnace repair. It is important to make the decision to stay or leave early on as you don’t want to wait until things are really bad to try to find another residence for the next couple of days.

Get Out Those Blankets

Check around the house and pull out all of the blankets that you have. It may be that you have covers, older bedspreads or even holiday blankets that you have lying around. You may not use these regularly so it may take some time to track them down. However, while waiting for a furnace repair you can always bundle everyone up at night and even during the day if you need to. The more layers you have on the bed, the warmer you will be.

Add Layers to Your Clothing

While you usually can get away with just wearing those winter pajamas around the house it might be time to add a few layers until the furnace repair technicians make it out to the house. You can add a sweatshirt or even place long underwear underneath what you are wearing to give yourself a little added protection from the cold. Toss on another pair of socks and maybe dust off those old legwarmers and add them to the ensemble.

If you have little ones at home this can be turned into a fun game to distract them from the chill in the air. You can play games to see who can put the most clothes on or challenge them to some kind of a mismatch competition. There is no reason that this can’t be fun.

Light Some Candles

During the chilly months of the year several holidays take place. If you have some of those extra seasonal candles lying around, light them up and set them safely around your home. While the flame is small it can make a large impact on the heat and warmth in the home. Remember to never leave them unattended and make sure that you blow them out before leaving the house or going to sleep. AlsoComputer Technology Articles, keep them out of the reach of children.
