House Cleaning - Make a Checklist

When it comes to house cleaning, you may feel like you aren't always sure that everything got done. What about the tasks that need to be done monthly? Are there things that you do with the changing of the seasons. Making a checklist can give you a feeling of accomplishment and let you know exactly what needs to be done.

When it comes to house cleaning, laying out all of the tasks ahead of you serves two purposes. First, you are able to see the amount of work that needs to be done. Don't get discouraged. It gives you a chance to see everything at a glance. If it isn't on the list, it doesn't need to be done. And secondly, you are able to see what you have accomplished. When the job is done, you can look back and see all of the work that was completed.

Groups of Tasks

Grouping your tasks by room may be the easiest and most efficient way to go about making a house cleaning checklist. In each room, begin at the top and write down what it would take for the room to be clean. This means that the list will vary from time to time. For example, you may not plan to clean the baseboards every time that you clean up your bedroom. Some weeks it might make the list. Other weeks it won't.

If you are short on time and company is coming over, just write down the things that are most important. What would it take for the room to be “clean” for company. If you have items of clothing or shoes laying around that may need to put away but you just don't have time, place them together in the closet or in a basket that can be “hidden” from your guests. While it may not be perfect, it will work for the moment and you can come back to it.

Types of Lists

Find a way to layout your house cleaning checklist so that you can be successful. For example, if you are someone that likes to check items off of a traditional list, then just use a piece of paper to write down all of your tasks and chores. One of the benefits to this method of list-making is that you can make a copy of your checklist and use a new one when you are going to work on your home.

If you are looking for a little more satisfaction as you complete a job, consider writing each one down on as sticky note. As you finish up, you have a note to remove from the fridge or maybe your desk. Every time a little note goes into the trash, you have finished a chore and are one step closer to being done.
