This involves creating plans for your home that specifically lay out what you expect to be built. Once you have these plans, it is equally important to ensure that you have a plot of land that is not only zoned as a residential area, but that is also compatible with the structure that you hope to build.

From there, it’s all about finding a builder that you are comfortable with. Remember, this is probably going to be the single biggest purchase - or at least one of the biggest purchases - of your life, so it’s worth taking your time to pick the best available contractor. Don’t always go with the cheapest price either, as it is often worth spending a bit more money to ensure you get quality work if you can afford it.
