Storage Options

Storage of belongings can help one feel organized. Here are some options for achieving this. One way of becoming more organized and keeping one’s life in order is with the use of storage. Many items need to be stored in various ways and for various reasons.

Here are some of the reasons and ideas for accomplishing it.

- Too much stuff: Sometimes our stuff outgrows the space that we have to put it in. A few of the ways to get this problem under control is by getting rid of it, selling it, donating it or throwing it away. If you still want to keep it, you can rent a space at the local storage center, build shelves in your garage or you purchase a shed to place in the backyard in order to stash away your belongings.

- You’re moving and can’t take your belongings with you. This happens with an out of town employment gig or when someone goes away to school and is temporary living in a dorm or renting a room. In cases such as this, a relative might let you pack away your belongings in their garage, shed or spare room. Renting a space at a facility may be your best bet, though, in order not to lean on family and friends.

- Military relocation: There are times when military families get stationed someplace where they can’t tote along their household goods. At the new base, furnishings will most likely be provided along with living quarters. This is a time to pack up the personal goods and store them in a month-to-month facility until the deployment or assignment has been completed.

- You’ve downsized your home and now your furniture won’t fit. Unless the overflow items are family heirlooms, it may be time to be realistic about your new square-footage. If it doesn’t fit in your smaller dwelling, it’s probably better to let it go. Sell, donate or throw away. It may be something one of your friends, relatives or a customer at the thrift shop would be thrilled to have. Think about passing it on.

- Compulsive shopping alert: Some people feel better with a bit of retail therapy. Shopping can be addictive and a way to make a person feel temporarily and artificially happy. The items purchased may pile up and create an out-of-control need for storage. If this is a consumer’s problem, however, it would be better to take control with a good therapist and a twelve step program.

If your belongings need to be put into storage, organize your life with one of the above suggestions. Sell, donate, throw away, create more space in your own abode, store things with relativesScience Articles, rent a locker or space at a local facility and in shopaholic cases; get some help in order to change your patterns.
