An electric radiator is essentially a convection heater, which heats the surrounding air and allows that warm air to spread throughout the room.  They run through a standard electrical outlet, so placing them in any room is simple.  Mounted to your wall in some cases, they will not take up any floor space and are seldom even noticed by visitors.  Whether the radiator itself uses a water-based heating coil or a standard heating element, the end result provides warm air for specific living areas, eliminating the need for electric central heating systems in the outer rooms of the home.

A common misconception belies that you lose the ability to utilise a thermostat when you make the switch from electric central heating to electric radiators.  Things have come a long way, and thermostats are included with many models, allowing you to program your heater for specific times, giving you the ability to come home to a warm living room, or walk into a toasty bedroom when you are getting ready to turn in for the night.  All of these features are causing cold-weather residents to replace old storage heaters and utilise something with a bit more comfort technology.

Before taking the plunge into the world of the electric radiator, remember that specific needs should always be considered.  What is driving your decision?  Are you looking to maximise the warmth of your house or save money?  Is the need for instantaneous heat far out-weighing your desire to cut back on the power bill?  If so, you may want to consider simply upgrading your central system.  However, this can be very expensive, so you must be prepared for that kind of expense.   In many cases, home-owners are watching natural gas pricing soar, but if there is a gas furnace on the property, cost can get out of hand quickly when you price a complete system replacement. 
The use of electric heaters can have an effect on the overall feel of a home.   With radiators placed in high-traffic rooms, particular temperature preferences can be appeased.  Several differing opinions are always present.  Electric radiators provide the same benefits that storage heaters can, while increasing efficiency and reducing the safety issues that are often seen with inferior technology.  Running on low wattage and giving similar heating results to much more expensive modules, the use of electric radiators will continue to rise.  Energy consumption is something that everyone is paying close attention to for two reasons:  one, the obvious cost-efficiency is beneficial in a time when money is scarce; and two, the overall benefits that occur when considering the ecological ramifications of using more power than is necessary.
