Sizes of sheds usually fall into a few different ranges. Those who have extremely small backyards or areas can normally take advantage of what is called a corner shed. It's usually about 3 feet tall by 3 feet wide and 2 feet deep and very basic in its utilitarian purpose. A larger shed is usually known as a vertical type. It is normally about 5 feet tall by 3 feet wide by 4 feet deep.

Larger sheds are normally always constructed of wood while smaller sheds of the horizontal or vertical variety can be made from a number of materials including plastic or aluminum. Many of these larger buildings, as was said, can resemble houses and have just as many elements in them as a house might. There may be windows, shingles on the roof and electrical outlets.

Many shed owners tend to customize their buildings by adding decorative trim and other elements that help the shed resemble the look of the home behind which these sheds may reside. There might also be at least one dormer, shutters for any windows that are installed and some sort of ventilation system that can be as intricate as what goes into any home. There is no end to how it can be customized.

These handy little outbuildings can be as small or as large as one desires, and many of these come ready and able to be built from a kit that most any large home improvement store will have available for sale.
