Being at the top of the game can lead to a level of self confidence in people that perpetuates success over and over. Arrogance, on the other hand, typically just irritates people and, more importantly, can lead to some real problems with trying to build an online business.

Being at the top of the game can lead to a level of self confidence in people that perpetuates success over and over. Arrogance,Killing SEO Results with Arrogance - SEO Marketing Advice Articles on the other hand, typically just irritates people and, more importantly, can lead to some real problems with trying to build an online business. The thoughts and attitudes that come with misplaced arrogance typically don’t result in small problems either. They’re the ones that can waste time, spend money, kill SEO results, and put a business’ survival in danger.  They are:1) Figuring that we know this business cold and don’t need to set goals, develop strategy, or build a business plan – This thinking sets several problems into motion including the difficulty of measuring any kind of progress, the absence of any kind of schedule, and a lack of any commitment to a strategy to advance the business. 2) That prowess in terms of building a product will transfer over to prowess in running a business on the internet. Nothing could be further from the truth. This is like thinking “I’m great at speaking English so going to Italy with no knowledge of the language won’t be a problem. Sure, there may be some people that will help along the way, but the journey will be much tougher and less enjoyable than if some preparation and guidance were sought beforehand.3) If we build it, they will come – This is an offshoot of “don’t need a plan” and “this product is awesome so it won’t be a problem”. Unfortunately, the most brilliant idea isn’t going to find the people who will buy it without a search engine optimization strategy. 4) We’ll crush the competition – Going head to head with the competition may be fine but without planning, strategy, SEO, benchmarks, goals, etc., it will be a tough fight. It will be a really tough fight if the competition is, in fact, unknown due to a lack of any research.   The denominators for success in operating an online business run along common lines. Offer a product and work in a niche with enough traffic. Research the keywords that you can compete for and win. Then build a search engine optimization strategy with goals and benchmarks so you can measure your progress. Execute the strategy. It may sound simple but the going failure rate for online businesses is pretty high. Of those that haven’t made it are plenty of sites that were in trouble before they started.
