The
key to a awesome offense is the skill to spread the defense out. For example,
use four wide receivers and hopefully the defense will adjust and send two
additional defensive backs out onto the field. This will void the middle of the
field allowing for running back dive, QB draw and fast passes to become
increasingly more effective.
Another
awesome technique while using this O is to put your most elite receivers into
the slot. This way, the D has its two best corner backs covering the exterior,
causing a disparity on the two slot receivers. If the defense shows man without
safety aid, send the interior receivers on deep routes and launch up a pass for
an easy score. If there is safety help, out routes and quick slants should be
advantageous. Either way, the interior receivers should be able to outwit their
person. There will only be one LB on the field if the defense uses dime,
presenting a mismatch when he has the RB man. Run quick passes, quick screens,
and motions to routes to also beat disparity.
A
mobile QB is also a big part in a spread offense. QBs such as Seneca Wallace,
Vince Young, and Donovan McNabb have the talent to throw the ball deep as well
as rush the football. In a man D, the only player not accounted for is the QB.
Run two slants towards the middle of the field and run the quarterback out to
that side of the field. If the coverage is man to man, the receivers should
leave that part of the field allowing for a pain free of at least ten yards.
