This country is known as a melting pot for a good reason; however, residency acceptance is an evolving process based on the country of origin and a selective lottery it is not determined on a case by case basis.

There are three ways to pursue residency in the United States with an immigration lawyer. One can apply for asylum, withholding of removal or directly apply for citizenship with a green card. First, when asylum is sought as entering immigrants have one year in order to be eligible to apply. With this option clients retain rights for their relatives' applications for asylum or withholding of removal and the potential to pursue permanent residency at a later date for themselves.

Second, withhold of removal isn't just about avoiding deportation it has to do with safeguarding a person's wellbeing. The application is to state that a past pattern of persecution in one's country of origin. If the client establishes a pattern that passes a standards test of greater than a 51 percent chance of recurring upon their return then they are granted their withholding of removal. Lastly, residency is a permanent status that can be sought as an individual or as a relative of a resident. An immigration lawyer works with a variety of immigration cases throughout each year and although the circumstances are extremely personal to each client, the attorney must comply with the law and prepare their client for the results either way.
