Last October things were full of doom and gloom in the media (not much difference from now) and the news was full of reports on business closures and the dreadful economic downturn. Our local TV station did a report on the town where my shop and party venue is located. This report was extremely negative with the emphasis on the demise of the area and the untold quantity of empty shops.

Our town was no different from most other towns in the country as the credit crunch was hitting everywhere. I became angered about this TV report. I immediately put pen to paper and sat down and wrote a Press Release stating that the information they had broadcasted had not been the true facts.

My retail shop and party venue, in the ghost town, was seeing growth in income and customer retention and in fact was making more money now than it ever had!

I sent a copy of this press release letter to the local newspapers, and waited for a response. I didn’t have to wait long as the very next day the video crew arrived and filmed me at my Fairy School, followed by a further 2 newspaper interviews. When asked why my business was thriving whilst others around me were collapsing, I told them that it was due to positive thinking and keeping in contact with existing customers.

Within a week I was on the front page of one newspaper and page 5 of another with my video showing on their news website. I also received a personal letter from the chief exec of the borough council, thanking me for such kind words about the town!!

I acted on an immediate current opportunity to get myself into the newspapers and this is what you must also do. It was so refreshing in the weeks that followed as so many people came in to the shop to congratulate me on doing so well in these ‘awful times’!

With press releases you can get FREE advertising from national and local TV, radio, newspapers, consumer magazines and trade publications. In fact the sky’s the limit. The more media that you expose your information to the better chance you have of actually getting something written about you.

Just look for current opportunities that are relevant to Face Painting, Children’s Entertainment and the party industry as a whole and find an angle that you can use for a story about you an your company, for your exposure!
