Four Trade Show Ideas For Your First Exhibit

Hosting trade show stands at your first industry convention can be stressful. Learn how to prepare for your first show, where to find successful trade show ideas, and how to exhibit like a professional.

Successful businesses know that conventions have the capacity to increase leads, sales, and networking opportunities.  However, taking that initiative to participate can be daunting. Following these four steps will get you on the right track in fostering your trade show ideas.
#1: Find Trade Show Ideas At Other Conventions
It is a good strategy to scout shows in your area before you go forward with trade show exhibits.  This will give you a good idea about what the experience will be like.  Observe what kind of trade show stands work well for others. Learn what appeals to the participants and vendors.
#2: Consider Purpose, Price, And Procedure
Not only is getting a feel for the event a good strategy, but you should know what you are getting into concerning the purpose of the show you will be participating in. Ask yourself if the convention you are considering will provide the target audience for your product or service. 
Another factor to consider is the cost of exhibiting. The fee for renting a lot for your trade show  stands depends on a variety of factors, including region, size of convention, and industry. It is important to calculate the costs (including extra expenses for media and communication) when deciding how to proceed. 
Each show also has guidelines that must be followed.  These include rules regarding trade show displays, signage, and the use of sound and space.  Knowing these guidelines in advance will help you develop your trade show ideas in a manner that will fit the rules of the event.
#3: Location, Location, Location
When considering your choices for places to set up your trade show exhibits, there are a few things to keep in mind.  First, it is never a good idea to be next to a competitor. In addition, it's a good idea to anticipate traffic patterns and try to select a spot where you can take advantage of them.  
It is also very important to stay clear of distractions.  For example, some booths include a demonstration area.  These are problematic for your exhibit when the PA system for the demonstration prohibits you from talking to your potential clients and vendors.  In addition, some attendees may infringe on your space while watching demonstrations at other booths.
#4: Preparing For Go Time
It is important to set up your trade show stands as early as possible.  This will ease the stress and ensure you're free when potential clients start to come through. It will also give you the opportunity to prepare yourself to engage the participants.
Be prepared! Bring a survival kit with you that is stocked with items that you may find invaluable if and when problems arise.  Make sure it includes a stapler, some tape, extra wire, tools, a flashlight, pins, and other items you can foresee needing in an emergency. Check all electric devices and sources first to make sure they are in working order. This way, you avoid having your booth set up and then having to break it down to solve a problem. Make sure your display has a professional appearance.  Avoid cheap plastic coverings and handwritten signs. Make sure the most important visuals are at eye level.
Following these four steps will allow you to ease into your first exhibit.  It is rewarding, indeed, to see your trade show ideas come to fruition and watch your enterprise become more present in your industry.
