OC Wedding Photographer offers tip: Use Website Effectively
A website is valuable to any business for a number of reasons. A website is a benefit to a photography business for all the traditional reasons; however, it also allows the customer to experience the actual product.
Many products can only be described online. For example the speed of a car cannot actually be experienced online, just demonstrated in words, pictures and video. A photography business is unique in that the actual product can be experienced online. To maximize this benefit and the benefit a website brings to virtually all traditional business owners, a photographer should implement the following suggestions:
1. Vet the pictures you put on the website by asking your clients, friends and family which pictures they like and which they would like to see removed. After asking a few people, a few pictures will begin to come up again and again as people's favorites. Add these to your website. Then, take another group of pictures and again ask which shots people like the best. Add only the most favored shots. You only have a few seconds to grab the attention of you potential clients. Don't waste that valuable time subjecting them to anything but your best work (what most of your clients think is your best work, not what you think is your best work - often these two opinions are quite different).
2. Gather email addresses on the website. By gathering email addresses you can create a distribution list for which to send monthly newsletters. You never know when a client is ready to have a portraits taken; however with a monthly newsletter, when they are ready you will come to mind.
3. Use your website to automate common tasks. Your website can show availability, process orders, gather email addresses, and take suggestions. Make sure your website has all of these functions. There is no reason to spend your valuable time doing something a computer can do just as well. Plus, a photography business is much more fun when you are actually spending more of your time taking pictures.
4. Make sure you have keywords in your website that will attract the clients you want through the search engines. You may need to either perform search engine optimization techniques yourself, or hire someone to do it. After all, a perfect website brings no benefits if it is not seen.
A website should be an integral part of any photography business. You can increase your benefit from this resource by following the above suggestions.
