Orange County Photographer Offers Tip on Shooting Weddings

A wedding photographer can make his life much easier by following a few simple tips.

For many, shooting a wedding can be a daunting task. The stakes are high. For many people this is the most important day of their lives. There are no opportunities for repeats (at least not normally with the same bride and groom). Your reputation as a professional photographer is on the line.

The following are is a list of tips to make sure the weddings you shoot go smoothly.

1. Maintain a checklist of things you need, have and want to cover. Meet with you assistant before hand to make sure you are both on the same page.

2. Discuss with the bride and groom before the wedding the style of shots they would like to have. Also ask them which shots are the most important to them. In addition, you will want to know the schedule of events so you can plan with your assistant who will cover what when. During this discussion, make sure you are clear with the bride and groom exactly how many hours of coverage is expected, your rates and prices and any other detail over which you can’t afford to have a misunderstanding. It is always better to address any disagreements before the wedding rather than after.

3. If you are feeling a little nervous about having enough quality shots, take a lot of pictures. Digital cameras make it cost effective to shoot thousands of shots. Of course this will mean you will need to sift through a number of shots after the wedding; but until you feel comfortable with shooting a wedding it is always a good idea to take an excess number of pictures. Some are sure to turn out well.

4. Get to your wedding early. Even if you are not being paid for the extra time. Try to be at least a half-hour early. Most of the time this will give you some extra time to look at the setup and plan your game of attack. Once in a while it will save you from a disaster. At times, you will hit a traffic jam or there will be an accident on the free way. Other times you will find you need to purchase another battery for your flash. There are a million things that could go wrong and by being early will fix a number of those things that could and often do go wrong.
