Who are you living for? Is it always all about yourself and your world? What if i tell you... you just half correct?

Recently,Who are you living for? Articles I was reading a book called Five Minutes on Mondays, by Rabbi Alan Lurie, he mentioned a famous book called The Purpose Driven Life.  In the very first sentence, it mentioned, “It’s not about you.” Everything you do shouldn’t be about you.

I took a moment to understand this statement as it is very new to me.  I was thinking, isn’t everything I do got to do with me.  On the first day of the New Year, I was writing a list of purposes supporting my goals in life and I realised that out of the 9 things I wrote, 7 were all about other people.  It was for my parents, other the needy, for my loved ones, for my future family.

Even when it was for myself, if I were to trace to a higher intention it was still for others.  Only when I grow, I would inspire others to be like me.  If I were to be better, I can help others.  If I were to be richer, I can donate more to the need.

You may say, I rather do it for myself.  There’s no wrong in doing that, however you will not be as driven comparing to a higher purposes in life.  Personally, I view when you have a higher purpose in life.  You are more motivated to work hard and smarter because you keep reminding yourself you are not just doing this for yourself.  You have a whole lot of reasons support you to be what you want to be.  You are like tapping on this unlimited source of energy to drive you on and on each day.

A very good example I would like to give is the power of a mother’s love for the child.  I heard of my friend’s colleague who was a single mother to a child in a financial planner.  She was a really motivated worker hitting the charts as top salesperson.  I believe the main source of her drive comes from her only child.  To provide for herself and her child, she works doubly hard so that their livelihood will not be compromise.

You may want to write out what are the 10 purposes for your life.  Then take a good look out of this 10 purposes how many are for others.  You can feel a big difference when you are doing things for others. It comes from a higher intention.  What is stopping you from doing something special for your treasured ones?  Nothing beats that smile on their face that warms your heart.

This is a promotional effort for my new ebook, What Is Stopping You Now?
