How Radiant Barrier Can Save Energy

Radiant Barrier is also known as reflective barriers. They inhibit transfer of heat by thermal radiation. Heat can also be transferred through convection and conduction. But the Radiant Barrier do not protect against such methods of heat transfer.

Radiant Barrier is also referred to as reflective barriers. They inhibit transfer of heat by thermal radiation. However, they're ineffective when it comes to convection and conduction, that are two other modes of heat transfer.

When an object becomes heated it radiates that heat in the form of energy known as thermal radiation. The rate of thermal radiation depends upon the temperature of the body as well as emissivity. Emissivity of the substance directly depends upon the amount of heat radiated. Reflectivity is a way of measuring how much energy is reflected through the material at a particular length.

Emissivity of Radiant Barrier need to be low (like .1 or less) at those wavelengths at which they are supposed to function. The range of wavelength for structures lies in the middle of the long infrared spectrum which is approximately 3-15 micrometers where the range for reflectivity of Radiant Barrier is not fixed because the total of reflectivity and emissivity doesn't have to be one and therefore, there is no fixed range. It can be said that low thermal emissivity creates dark surfaces and for correct functioning, the Radiant Barrier should be facing open surfaces that are vacuum or air to prevent radiation.

Application of radiant barrier-

A substance was formulated by NASA which was reflective, light and produced from plastic substrate and was aluminum coated by vapor deposition technique which is generally known as space blanket. The main use of space blanket is to protect astronauts, spacecrafts and equipments from radiation and to retain heat as in space temperature fluctuations are common. As heat transfer in space is possible only by radiation therefore, Radiant Barrier are much more efficient and useful in space rather than on earth where the heat transfer is also feasible via convection and conduction even after deploying Radiant Barrier.

To stop heat reduction from indoors, Radiant Barrier can be used successfully.

Installation of Radiant Barrier is generally done by two methods-

1.Radiant Barrier Decking

2.Radiant Barrier Attic Foil.

The rooftop of the building absorbs solar energy on sunny days and this heat is radiated downwards to the floor. A radiant barrier when put to the attic floor reflects the heat received towards the roof. Therefore this helps to keep the temperature of the roof under optimum level. Radiant Barrier also reduces heat waves from outside to enter the rooms. Therefore Radiant Barrier is very useful devices.

The traditional technique of insulating an attic and a radiant barrier are different from each other. Their functions are comparable but their techniques of achieving the same vary. The areas near a radiant barrier are cooler as it minimizes the heat radiated whereas the traditional method of attic insulation achieves this by means of convection. Air is trapped within insulation in this technique. The rating is carried out by R-value. Radiant Barrier don't carry R-value since they are depending on numerous factors.

The price range of Radiant Barrier differs based on a lot of factors. It is dependent on the shape and size as well as the requirements of the individual getting them installed. If you wish to incorporate some additional functions, you need to pay out some extra money. The price range also differs depending on the age of the hose. Obviously it's low for a brand new house.

Needless to say, Radiant Barrier is extremely efficient and desirous. They are of vital significance and preferred these days.
