If you are already on the top floor of you apartment community that
does not mean you cannot make some small changes. Did the apartment
home provide you with mini-blinds for your windows? If the windows in
your apartment home face east and west this is the worst position to be
in. The sun will set in the west and the heat will cause your apartment
room temperature to rise. You can purchase some mini-blinds that will
help keep out the light and the heat from the sun. Make sure you close
the shades when you leave for the day. Some people will also turn off
the a/c. This is a bad idea though.
You will have to run it when you get back home and this will expend
more energy than if you just left it on. If you are purchasing a house,
double pane windows are much more energy efficient than single pane.
Don't fill up your refrigerator and freezer with tons of items. Make
sure there is enough space for the air to flow between your goods. This
will allow your refrigerator to cool the items more efficiently. Piling
up goods will only cause more energy to be used. Special detergents are
now available whereby you can wash all your clothes in cold water. When
you run a cycle using hot water this will cause the water to be heated,
which will increase costs on your electric bill in your apartments
