I Miss You Ahmad Khawaja

I looked at him couple of years back. He was a lively person with abnormally large ears. We laughed at him for that as he appeared as a playful, brown bunny. He was somewhat awkward in his attitude, but what else could you count on from a 3 month old mutt?

I looked upon this creature two years ago. He was a playful tyke with unusually big ears. We used to laugh at him for that because he looked like a playful, brown bunny. He was rather clumsy in his demeanor, but what can you expect from a three month old mutt? Actually he's not a mutt, but a pure bred Belgian Malinois, and his name is Ahmad Khawaja.

Ahmad is my father's guard dog... well guard puppy at that time. Although his daily regimen was running, running, running, eating, sleeping, running, running, running (well not necessarily in that order), he grew up to be the big, intelligent and loyal canine we all expected him to be.

As a guard dog he has no equal. No one would dare approach my father's property for fear of him. In fact we changed the "BEWARE OF GUARD DOG" sign posted on my father's gate to "BEWARE OF AHMAD KHAWAJA - GUARD DOG". In retrospect, after biting several neighbors and outsiders, our sign was an understatement and it should have been "BE FEARFUL OF AHMAD KHAWAJA - GUARD DOG".

In spite of his tenacious guard dog instincts, Ahmad remains a loyal, loving and playful dog. During regular walks, he will not leave your side (even when unleashed). He is a strong defender and he will snap at anyone who will approach you, whether they mean good or harm. Your pat on his head will be reciprocated with his nibbling your hand. He will fetch almost anything you will throw such as tennis balls, Frisbees and small toys among others.

A visit at my father's place is not complete without a tussle with Ahmad. He will not just coax you to play with him but he will grab your hand with his jaws and pull you towards his toys enjoining you to play. After the tugging and pushing and running and cavorting you will expectedly be tired and would just want to walk away. But Ahmad will not allow that and he will grab your footwear with his powerful jaws so as not to allow you to leave. Prudence dictates that you run posthaste inside the house to avoid being subjected to further roughing up. Oftentimes this will be at the expense of leaving your footwear with him because he will not let go. Well the moral of the story is not to wear your expensive or prized footwear when you are with Ahmad.

It has been a while now since I have been to my father's place. Work and other obligations have deterred me from going there. In as much as I miss my father, I also miss Ahmad Khawaja, his loyal, lovingArticle Submission, and playful guard dog.
