Care Tips To Keep Weimaraners Healthy

Keeping weimaraners as pets is not unusual neither impossible. Many people have come to love this breed despite the fact that they were originally bred to hunt large animals such as boar, bears, deer and foxes. In addition to being incredible hunters, weimaraners have become loyal and loving guardian of his family - an all purpose gun dog indeed.

With all the good and useful things dogs are capable of doing, in return, they want nothing but their owner's love and care necessary to keep them fit and happy. It is just right that owners must their part in caring for their four-legged furry friend.

Here are some tips you may find helpful in caring for your Weimaraners:

Know your dog.
This simply means that you should know your dog's characteristics, personality traits, his needs and even possible health issues. By doing so, you will be able to know what to do whatever happens.

Dog Foods.
There are different forms of commercial dog foods; dry form also known as kibble, wet form and semi-moist food. Whatever form you prefer, it is important that you choose high quality dog foods. Review the list of ingredients on the labels and make sure that the first or second ingredient is meat, fish, egg or some type of meat or fish meal. Low quality dog foods mostly contain more fillers and animal-by-products with lower energy values and lower-grade proteins. So be careful!

Feeding.
Know that weimaraners are prone to bloat and gastric tortion. Feeding three to four small meals a day can can prevent this health issue from happening. Doing vigorous exercise should also be prevented approximately one hour before or after meals.

Exercise.
These hunting dogs need extensive exercise to keep up with their physical endurance and stamina. Walk or run your weimaraner at least once or twice a day and give plenty of time off leash. Just remember not to exercise your pet before or after eating to prevent the occurrence of bloat.

Training.
Early and proper socialization is important to this breed. Children as well as other dogs and animals should be socialized early on to prevent aggressive behavior among weimaraners.
