This type of a pet cage is popular because it does not allow much litter to spread within the cage. The disadvantage with this type of a cage is that it lacks enough aeration causing a very bad smell to come from the cage. Similarly, the cage may become too hot and affect  the pet.

It is easy to obtain plastics .However; cages of this nature may pose some risks to your pet. Rats like chewing anything and may chew the plastic material. This may make you to use extra money in replacing the whole cage.

This cage has enough aerration and unlike the plastic one, it can not be chewed. Similarly, it allows you to adjust its size without any difficult. However, litter will accumulate ore easily within a short duration.  
The bedding material to choose for the cage
It should be comfortable enough. Avoid using bedding that is oily or dusty as this may affect the rat's breathing. You should change the bedding once in a week. One way to make your rat more comfortable in the pet cage is to hang some toys.Just like you, your friend may become easily bored if you do not change your pet toy regularly.
