Finding Peace In the Midst of the Storm

Sometimes peace arrives in the most unlikely places!

"Ladies and gentlemen, this is Captain Davis.  Looks like we have some rough weather ahead, so you can expect some mild turbulence.  At this time, I'm going to turn on the fasten safety belt sign and ask that you be seated and fasten your safety belt."

Those were not words I wanted to hear!  Especially since I am not a huge fan of flying.  I also knew that our little plane with only two propellers and one stewardess would not handle rough weather as well as larger jets.  So I buckled up, said a quick prayer (something like, "Jesus I love You, I just don't want to meet you face to face TODAY!"), and prepared for the storm.

As we reached the "mild" turbulence, the storm threw us around the sky as if we were some little remote-controlled toy.  But somehow, in the midst of the storm, I was able to find peace.  And I found it somewhere you may not expect: on the face of our flight's lone stewardess.

She sat at the front of the plane in a chair facing the rear.  I was seated near the front and could see her face and expressions.  I figured she had been through plenty of storms before, so I kept my eyes on her.  In my mind, I assured myself, "As long as she is calm, I am calm.  If she looks scared, then I will be scared."  To my delight, she never appeared worried, not even for an instant.  Because of her calm and relaxed countenance, I was able to be at peace.

Storms are like that.  They can force us into an uncomfortable place where uncertainty is the only thing that is certain.  But even in the midst of trouble, God still speaks to His children.  And in the midst of the storms of life, we can find peace.  Psalm 46:1 says, "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in time of trouble."

We can find peace in the midst of the storm by keeping our eyes on the One who not only gives peace, but is peace (Isaiah 9:6).  God has given us the right to call on His name, to look to Him and find peace.  If you do not have peace in your lifeFree Web Content, it is because you are not looking in the right place.  Look to the Lord and keep your eyes on Him.  For only in Christ will you find peace...even in the midst of the storm!
