Have you seen the signs held up by fans at sports venues that just read, John 3:16?  This is one of the cornerstones of what Christians believe.   Look in the King James Bible in the third chapter of the book of John, verse 16.  “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”  Is there a better, more concise, statement of the fact that God loves us so much that he would do anything for us to have eternal life with Him?

The Gospel According to St. John, in the King James Bible, is where you’ll find the miracles of Jesus turning water into wine, and feeding five thousand people with five barley loaves and two small fish.  It is here that we learn of how Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead after he had been in the grave for four days.

The story of the betrayal of Jesus begins with him reassuring the apostles.  “In my Father’s house are many mansions…I go to prepare a place for you.”  This is also the chapter that tells me that there is only one way to God.  Jesus says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”  The Book of John continues with Jesus being handed over to Pilate and led away to be crucified.  He is crucified along with two others—crucified in order that the prophecies about the Messiah in the Old Testament would be fulfilled.

Joseph of Arimathea asked Pilate for the body of Jesus and was given the okay to take his body and lay it in a sepulcher.  When the Sabbath was over and the women went to prepare the body, the rock had been rolled away and the body was gone.  Jesus appeared to Mary Magdalene and sent her with a message to the disciples.  He appeared later to the disciples. 

The book closes with the author saying that this is just a few of the things that Jesus did, that if they were to be written down, “even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written.”  We’re lucky to have the King James Bible and its books of the Old and New Testaments.  In this way, we can know our God and his plans for us.
