Some people go into retreats for years so that they can learn to quiet their mind. It is absolutely that hard to still the mind of mindless chatter.
Try pausing between each thought and analyze that last thought you had and see if it was really important, of value, or needful in your life. When you do this you are visiting the space between your thoughts. When you can pay attention to your thoughts you will start noticing how much time you are wasting thinking about the past, present, and future. All you really need to do is be quiet and still for as many moments as you possibly can throughout the day and you will start noticing that many things that were important to you really have very little meaning. Amazing how unimportant most of our thoughts are.

We worry sometimes over things that are really needless and this is the point of getting silent and learning to quiet your mind.
