What is fashion? What is the essence of style and chic? Designers,Shop Local Style - Fashion Around the Corner Articles magazine editors, store buyers and consumers all over the globe are constantly trying to figure this out. What is the next color? What is the next accessory? And while it might be easy to browse the pages of French Vogue and mimic the Parisian spring 2012 look, it is not the end all be all for what is 'in.' In fact, if you take a second to look around you, I am certain that you will find a sense of style and flavor that represents the city you live in. That 'look' is one that is deep routed in it's surroundings and tells a story of the people living there. What could be a better way to embrace your roots than to shop local style?

I am sure you have heard the term 'shop local' quite a bit in the past few years. There is a big push to get things from a neighborhood grocer and to frequent that new locally owned restaurant. This is great for small businesses, it brings dollars back to the basis of a communities economy, but it can sometimes have a restrictive nature. All the things you may need, might not be available at your mom and pop shops, and you have to head for a big chain. Or the mom and pop shop is closed at 10 on a Sunday night.

The issues described above are all logistical, and while that does play a part in business, it is something that style can transcend. To shop local style does not mean to buy clothes made by designers from your city. It means to embrace the look of your community. When you shop local style you are piecing together an ecletic look that has been gathered from around the world to create the look that bests represents you and your surroundings.

Still not buying it? Think about this, you live in a warm weather climate, but all the fashion week clothing is aimed for cold weather places, just because it's 'in' does not mean it is the right look for you or where you are from. When you shop local style, you are using clothes and accessories to express and tell the story of your surroundings. So get rid of the fashion magazines and the blogs and just look out your window. Don't be a voicebox for fashionistas you haven't even heard of, be yourself and shop local style!
