Being selfish at times is worthy. It does not mean that you’re not concerned about others. To have a more balanced life, you have to first think more about your needs.

Any problems need to be attacked head on; don't let them build up until the dam bursts. Only worry over the issues you can do something about. Protect yourself from anyone who is set to disturb your thoughts and personal peace. If a person is rude to you or says some sarcastic statements; turn away.

If a problem comes up that causes anxiety, settle it and put it down. Don't let it drag you down and take control of your life. Do not try to find solutions for the world's problems or make it a burden for you.

Love the person you are; look at yourself in your mirror each morning and know what a great person you happen to be. Empower your life so that you can attain your personal goals. Acknowledge all the good and kindness within you.

Last but not least get in control, reward yourself and nurture yourself.  All this makes it possible in attaining a balanced life that actually shows in the way you smile.
