Techniques To Break Bad Habits And Improve Your SelfIf you wish to improve your self, one of the very first things you need to do is to break bad habits. This article discusses some techniques on how you can eliminate the negative in your life and replace it with the good. One of the first steps you have to perform in order to reverse an undesirable attitude or addiction is to accept that something or an activity is really your weakness, and admit that to your loved ones. For instance, if you are a chain smoker and you keep that from your partner, it’s about time that you tell him or her of it. Learning to accept it and coming clean to the people around you means that you are serious about wanting to break bad habits therefore you’ll have higher chances of completing your mission to improve your self. To eliminate the negative, it is also best to emulate the life of someone good, to be specific, someone you admire. ‘Idolizing’ someone can be beneficial as it can serve as your habit reversal treatment. For instance, if you find an uncle to be amazing and he is not a smoker while you are, you’ll be motivated to quit smoking because you wish to be like him. If your idol is someone who’s worse than you or the same as you e.g. also a smoker, then, it’s time to look for another person who can be of good influence to you and will make you realize that you should start to break bad habits. To more easily improve your self and eliminate the negative, another strategy is to replace your negative patterns with good or positive ones. This is so you won’t think of going back to your old ways. For example, if you are a heavy alcohol drinker, you can replace that with the habit of drinking milk tea or fruit juices so for most of the days wherein you crave for alcohol, a habit reversal treatment is to drink a fruit juice or a milk tea instead. Anyone who plans to put an end to his or her addiction or undesirable tendencies should also remember to take things slowly. One should not expect that the habit can be stopped in just a snap of the fingers, or in just one day (unless your brain is very powerful). Take things one step at a time e.g. if you eat fatty foods 7 days a week, start eating them just 6 days weekly, and then eventually lessen that to 5 days per week, 4 days, and so on , until your body and mind gets used to it.Keep in mind that it is not too late for you to break bad habits. Just follow the tips shared above consistently and see how you’re able to eliminate the negative and start leading a better life and actually improve your self significantly.
