You are probably a poker player who is just starting out and looking
for an online poker tutorial. You have come to the right place as we are
a source of online poker tutorial and tips. In this online poker tutorial
article, we will give you a short glossary which will tell you the most
basic poker terms always used in poker games and complex poker
strategies.
At this level of our online poker tutorial, you should at least be able
to decipher the basic rules of Texas Hold‘em poker. Remember, this online poker tutorial is a shortened glossary of terms.
An Online Poker Tutorial Term # 1: Blinds
What is a blind? Blinds are forced bets that garner the place of an
ante. The player who is positioned to the left of the dealer is the
person who will pay the small blind while the player at his or her right
places a bet for the big blind.
An Online Poker Tutorial Term # 2: Board Cards
Board cards are the common cards shared by all the players and the
dealer in a poker table. In short, it is the common card. These are also
called community cards.
An Online Poker Tutorial Term # 3: Draw
When you draw, you improve your hand with the cards which appear on the
board. The term draw applies when you want other poker cards to be
produced in the board so that your hand will be complete. For example,
if you have a 10 and a 9 while the flop consists of J, Q, 2, you would
be “drawing” an 8 or a king on the river turn.
An Online Poker Tutorial Term # 4: Flop
Flop is the term for the three board cards in the game of Texas Hold’em poker.
An Online Poker Tutorial Term # 5: Implied Odds
This term is actually the same as pot odds, however, the difference is
it takes into account the future bets that the player will be making. So
what happens is if you make a call and bet at the flop but have implied
odds, you make a higher bet on the upcoming rounds if you hit a draw.
For example, if you have a king and an ace and the flop shows a queen, 7
and 6, your implied odds will be what you have to call at the flop
versus how huge the pot will be at the end of the game.
An Online Poker Tutorial Term # 6: Limit Poker
Limit poker is poker with fixed size wagers. For example, in a $5-10
limit game, all the bets and raises are $5 in the first two rounds which
are the pre flop and the flop, while all bets will be raised by $10.
