An Online Poker Tutorial Term # 1: Blinds

What is a blind? Blinds are forced bets that garner the place of an ante. The player who is positioned to the left of the dealer is the person who will pay the small blind while the player at his or her right places a bet for the big blind.

Board cards are the common cards shared by all the players and the dealer in a poker table. In short, it is the common card. These are also called community cards.

When you draw, you improve your hand with the cards which appear on the board. The term draw applies when you want other poker cards to be produced in the board so that your hand will be complete. For example, if you have a 10 and a 9 while the flop consists of J, Q, 2, you would be “drawing” an 8 or a king on the river turn.

Flop is the term for the three board cards in the game of Texas Hold’em poker.

This term is actually the same as pot odds, however, the difference is it takes into account the future bets that the player will be making. So what happens is if you make a call and bet at the flop but have implied odds, you make a higher bet on the upcoming rounds if you hit a draw. For example, if you have a king and an ace and the flop shows a queen, 7 and 6, your implied odds will be what you have to call at the flop versus how huge the pot will be at the end of the game.
