AVP Hot Winter Nights Tour - Format

The ideal season for beach volleyball is the summers but now that the summer is over and winter is already here with all its white glory it doesn't take a genius to figure out that the players must all be heading inside to wait for winter to end. Actually, this is exactly what is happening with most of the AVP athletes.  They will be taking their game indoors for the AVP Johnsonville Hot Winter Nights Tour.

Starting from 17th January, AVP athletes and staff are going to vacate the beaches (which they must all have done by now) and head out to visit indoor volleyball facilities in several cities along the East Coast, Midwest, and Pacific Northwest. They will tour some 17 cities playing before fans from all over. While enjoying the competition among AVP volleyball's top ranking athletes is a good enough treat, fans will also be able to escape the cold weather outside and snuggle up in various arenas to watch the magic of beach volleyball get recreated indoors.

The composition or format of the hot Winter Nights Tour will of course be quite different from that which is seen in the summertime AVP crocs tour but what fans can be assured of without any doubt is that they will get to watch some exciting and thrilling competition between the top athletes.

This time a round-robin format will be followed to get a clear individual champion from amongst both the men's and women's volleyball  matches. Therefore, the format of the previous set teams play will not be followed. For each event, four men and four women athletes will be pitted against one another (same sex). They will then play against each other on the sand till a final, clear victor emerges as the best player for that night.

At each stop of the tour, the competition will start off with pool play. Three matches will be played per gender. Partners will be rotated for each match ensuring that all players are teamed with one another at least once. Every match will consist of one game to 15 points during pool play which will follow an abbreviated game format.

After the pool play is done with, which ever two players emerge as the ones with the best scores, will be allowed to move on into the final round where they will play against each other till a final winner is determined. The winner will get the chance to be the first to pick his/her partner for the championship match.  In the final match, one game will be played to 15 points, with a must win by 2.

With this being only the second time that AVP Johnsonville Hot Winter Night's Tour is being heldFeature Articles, it is amazing the kind of interest it has already started to generate among fans. This is one beach volleybal event to look out for.  It will take place between Jan and Feb 2009.
