Lake Sturgeon - Learn about the best baits and lures

Learn some tips and tricks about Lake Sturgeon - Learn amazing secrets to fill your stringer

Lake Sturgeon have no scales, but their skin is very strong and thick, much like a leather jacket, and contains areas protected by armor plating, their mouths are long and underneath the mouth they have long barbels or whiskers like those of a bullhead or catfish. Lake Sturgeon can weigh several pounds and grow to be a few feet in length, they can also live longer then a human can, by several years.

Depending upon water conditions such as the algae count and the main food source of the Lake Sturgeon, it's overall body color can range from various shades of grayish-blue, greenish-brown, to even coal-gray. As their name implies most Lake Sturgeon live in large lakes, but they also reside in rivers. Despite their rough appearance, Lake Sturgeon have a very tasty flesh, and their eggs is highly prized also, as a fancy restaurant caviar.

When pole fishing for Lake Sturgeon, keep in mind that they mostly feed off the bottoms of the lakes or other bodies of water that they occupy, in fact they forage and feed very similar to the way a bullhead or catfish does, sucking up food that lies on or very near the bottoms.

Some anglers have reported much success when fishing for Lake Sturgeon, by using such baits as nightcrawlers, worms, large grasshoppers, and even shrimp pieces, as well as pieces of dead bait fish. Trying some of the same scent baits that lure bullheads and catfish, often work as well or better for sturgeon also, such favorites are blood baits, cheese baits, dough balls, and fresh or slightly rancid chicken livers, that are available in many grocery stores, in the meat sections.
